"It's just one of those days"

Author's Note:
This fanfic is for ~LoneLilSoul for winning the APHetaLIT Kiriban. Congratulations!

I'm late. The first day of school and I. Am. Late. How did this happen? I'm sure I set my alarm clock for seven ... maybe the batteries failed? I should probably pick up the pace, I'll never make it in time. Where are my shoes? Argh. They're not polished! I don't have time to deal with this. Where are my keys? Oh yes, they're in my pocket. Quick!

I made my way down the step staircase which led away from the dormitories and towards the main building. My left foot must have snagged on something because the next thing I knew, I was flying head first into the under level wall. I spread my arms to break my fall and scrapped my palms on the rough concrete beneath. My bag spewed its contents in the stairs, bending pages and textbooks as it went tumbling down the next flight of stairs.

"Hey, are you O.K.?"

Great. Someone saw me in all my grace, trip and fall.

I gathered myself from the floor, dusting off my navy blue jacket "Yes, I'm fine". I noticed my things lying about and hurriedly made a move to pick them up. "I'm sorry, I'll get out of your way."

"Like, that's O.K. I'll help you. We're both late anyways."

I raised my head from my books and met two piercing emeralds, staring back at me with curiosity. The girl – no, wait – it was a boy, had silky blond hair framing his pale face. I felt my cheeks gain colour and my mouth dropped a few degrees open.

"Err, you're new here, aren't you?" he asked in a melodic voice.

"Yes" I managed to reply, gulping hard at the same time. "I start today".

"Eh? That's cool. Where you from?"

My ears caught the slight mistakes in his speech, coated in a somewhat familiar accent. "I'm from Lithuania, I used to study in Kaun– "

"WHOA, NO WAY"

I took a step back, finding refuge in the wall behind me.

"Like, I'm Polish! That means we're like, neighbours!" He exclaimed excitedly.

I repressed a chuckle, letting my hair fall in waves over my face. "Ar jūs kalbate lietuviškai?" I asked, tentively.

"Taip!" He replied, cheerfully "Czy mówisz po polsku?" he asked, in turn.

"Ah, tak" He beamed back at me. Positively beamed. I didn't think it was possible to be that happy.

"My name is Feliks like, what's yours?"

"To– "

*DING*  *DONG*

"AH! I forgot! We're late! Come on, we've got to get going!"

I reluctantly picked up my books, stuffed them any old way into my bag, and followed my newfound Polish friend down the last few steps. We ran like mad through the courtyard, never stopping for a breath until we reached the main hall of the school. Once we arrived to a closed door, my friend turned on his heels and faced me.

"This is me" he whispered, not wanting to alert the teacher of his presence. "Where are you going?"

"Ah err ..." I dug a hand into my bag and pulled out a timetable folded in two. "Err, biology?"

"Seriously? Cool! That means you're with me. We've got M. Bonnefoy this morning" He tugged on my sleeve, raising his other hand to his lips in the universal "silence" symbol.

He walked in first, beckoning me with his free hand to follow him inside. The classroom was huge, I'd never seen such spacious quarters. All the students were already seated, notebooks and pencils at the ready. Feliks motioned towards two empty seats and I diligently followed him. We sat down just in time as the teacher stepped in to begin his lecture.

"Good day students!"

The class answered in unison a booming "Good day!"

"As you know, I will be your biology teacher this year. I hope we will come to be good friends! Today, we are going to be studying the human body. Now, who can tell me the main bodily functions associated with–"

Feliks pushed a paper onto my lap, distracting me momentarily from the lesson. I glanced down and read in his lyrical handwriting:

"Class won't be long. We'll get out soon.
                                                             -F "

I gave him a quizzical look to which he replied with a smile. He scribbled anew on the sheet, which read a simple but precise:

" You'll see "

I tuned back into the teacher's lecture.

"– Good! Now, who can tell me the differences between men and women? Let's start with .... you" he pointed at a young girl with pigtails who sat in the front row.

"It comes down to chromosomes, Sir." She replied smartly.

"Very good Miss. But what of the physical differences? Would you care to demons– OMPH!"

M. Bonnefoy interrupted his speech when the girl suddenly whopped him on the head with her heavy textbook. Her dark bangs covered her expression, but I could easily see she was blushing a wild crimson colour. The class erupted into laughter, and I saw out of the corner of my eye Feliks do the same.

"Is she going to get a detention?" I asked as I leaned in towards him.

"Wha? No, of course not" he replied, matter-of-factly. "This is a regular scenario for the biology class"

I returned my gaze to the girl who was trashing the teacher's desk. I felt bad for M. Bonnefoy, especially when she tied him to his chair. Although, I found odd that he laughed all the way through.

"Come on, let's get out of here" Feliks told me, pulling on my arm.

"B-But, class isn't over! Shouldn't we help–"

"It's fine, don't worry about it. Now, come on! We've got to go like, NOW" he emphasised on the 'now' a little bit too strongly, in my opinion.

He grabbed my bag and, in flash, we were running again, but this time, down the hallway. He laughed gleefully at my shocked face when we passed the Headmaster's office (Which, I'm almost sure, Master Kirkland saw us). We stopped once we reached the open space of the courtyard. It truly was a glorious day, the sun shone brightly and the grass was of a lush green.

Feliks dropped down on the lawn, forgetting his clean uniform. He kicked off his shoes impatiently, sending them flying through the clear blue sky.

"Like, are you gonna join me, or do you plan on staring at me longer still?"

I felt a deep hue creep onto my cheeks as I mumbled a soft "I'll sit".

Feliks chuckled lightly, extending a hand to greet my face. He raised my chin so that we were eye-to-eye. "Like, you have such pretty eyes! They're so green. Why do you hide them beneath this dark mess of hair?" he asked, almost playfully, as he tugged at my bangs.

"Y-Your eyes are green too" I stated. I saw my own reflection in them, as they gleamed seemingly infinitely. Feliks had the kind of stare that gave the feeling of being read, as if he could see right through me.

"Like, duh! You're so silly ..." he trailed, flopping back down onto the lawn.

I found myself looking at him again, examining every line, every hue in his hair. I was just about to open my mouth when he suddenly sat up, scaring the wits out of me.

"Watch out!" he yelled, pulling me down to the grass with him. My face came crashing into his chest as his smell incensed my mind. I vaguely noticed his hand on the back of my head, the other one somewhere around the small of my back.

"Aie! ... sorry guys, are you O.K.?" said a voice, seemingly floating from somewhere beyond a grassy hill.

"Like, oh my God! You could have totally killed my friend!" yelled Feliks, too close to my eardrums.

I got up on my elbows and turned painfully to look at our "aggressor". A tall man stood a few feet from us, his tanned skin, almost russet in colour, beneath a pristine uniform of white. He had a full head of curls, whipping around his face as the wind blew gently around us.

Suddenly, a violent roar erupted from beyond the –what I assume it was– soccer field. "TONY! YOU BASTARD, COME BACK HERE!"

The man scratched the side of his head in a bashful fashion and chuckled nervously. "Are you alright? I hope I didn't hit you..."

"We're O.K." I replied, wanting to dissipate the tense atmosphere. I reached over to my side, only now noticing the soccer ball, which lay idle, and picked it up for him. "Here's your ball ... you're a player?"

"Oh, thanks. No, actually, I'm the P.E. teacher" he replied with a blinding smile.

"EH?" I exclaimed beyond my good judgement. "But you ... you're so–" I covered my mouth before the word 'young' could escape it.

"Young? Yes, I know, I get that a lot–"

"ANTONIO! WILL YOU GET BACK HERE?!?" screamed the disembodied voice of a young man.

Antonio smiled to both Feliks and I, before running off in the direction from which he had just come. "DIOS MIO! VARGAS, I'M COMING, STOP SCREAMING!"

I watched him disappear beyond the hill, where the sound of an electrifying game could be heard floating back. Only then did I realize, Feliks was still holding me in his arms, and I was still straddling his legs. I jumped up rapidly from my kneeling position, turning around before Feliks could notice my enflamed skin. I heard him scoff and I easily imagined him smiling at my back.

We heard the distant school bell, announcing 2nd period, which I interpreted as my cue to run off and escape Feliks' stare (I'm quite sure I'd find a burn mark in the back of my jacket later on). I hastily picked up my bag from where I'd left it lying, swung it over my shoulder and broke into a small jog. About twenty feet away from where Feliks still laid, silent and unmoving, I heard him call me out.

"Hey! Like, you still haven't told me your name!"

I turned halfway, glancing over my shoulder and, with my brightest smile, I yelled back "Toris Lorinaitis!" I must have caught him off-guard, because his usual smooth face was now replaced by a startled expression and a delicate blush painted across his cheeks.

Satisfied, I turned on my heels and made my way across the field. It was just one of those days.

lol, sorry about the splash of foreign languages XD I forgot to tell you I like writing this way ^^;

:iconlawooplz: Wooooow~ I haven't written a "school" fic in such a long time! :excited: I used to write them all the time in HS (because I was such a Harry Potter dork) but it feels good to write in that style again! (Thanks ~LoneLiLSoul !)

I might end up writing a 2nd part to this fic~ I had so much fun writing this bit :la: If I do, I have a plan involving Alfred, Ivan & Gilbert ... >3< I'll be throwing in some Roderich as well ;P (what story is complete without these charas?)

Anyway, I hope this meets your requirements! ♥ It's a light fluff fic but meh~ It didn't make any sense puting some kissing scenes into this one, considering it's supposed to be the 1st day of school XD

ConCrit as usual! ♥
